JOHANNESBURG, Friday 15 May 2026 — The ANC’s National Executive Committee reaffirmed its support for President Cyril Ramaphosa and backed his decision to seek judicial review of the independent Phala Phala panel report.
ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula said Ramaphosa’s resignation or recall had not been considered by the NEC. He said the committee had reaffirmed its “full and continued support” for Ramaphosa as ANC president and leader of the Government of National Unity.
The ANC also said it would participate in Parliament’s Section 89 process while Ramaphosa pursued his court challenge.
Parliament was in the process of establishing a multi-party committee to examine the allegations contained in the panel report. Any eventual removal of a president under section 89 requires the support of at least two-thirds of the National Assembly.
