JOHANNESBURG, Tuesday 4 August 2026 — MK Party president Jacob Zuma appointed his son Duduzane Zuma as the party’s first deputy president as part of a broader restructuring of its national leadership.
Tony Yengeni was confirmed as second deputy president, Reverend Mxolisi Phakathi was appointed national chairperson and Lindiwe Mtshali became deputy secretary-general.
Former first deputy president John Hlophe was relieved of that party leadership position but remained the MK Party’s parliamentary leader. Nkosinathi Nhleko was removed as national chairperson.
The party said the reorganisation was intended to strengthen its leadership, governance and coordination. The changes came less than two months after the expulsions of Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla and Nhlamulo Ndhlela.
