JOHANNESBURG, Saturday 8 August 2026 — The Democratic Alliance launched its national local government election manifesto at Mary Fitzgerald Square, setting out its campaign priorities ahead of the 4 November municipal elections.
DA leader Geordin Hill-Lewis said the party’s programme centred on three areas which it described as trustworthy government, reliable municipal services and conditions for residents and businesses to progress.
The party said DA-led municipalities would end cadre deployment in appointments, increase procurement transparency and ring-fence revenue collected for water and electricity for those services. It also proposed reducing regulatory barriers for small businesses.
The commitments are campaign proposals and will depend on election outcomes and the powers available to individual municipalities. The DA is contesting municipalities across the country.
