JOHANNESBURG, Friday 13 March 2026 — The uMkhonto weSizwe Party has announced leadership changes as political parties continue preparations for the 2026 local government elections.
The party said the reconfiguration was intended to strengthen political organisation and mobilisation ahead of the municipal polls.
The changes come as parties across the country prepare campaign structures, candidate processes and voter registration drives before election day.
The MK Party entered national politics as a significant electoral force in the 2024 national and provincial elections and has since positioned itself as a key opposition player.
Local government elections will test the party’s ability to translate its national and provincial support into ward-level and municipal representation.
The party said its organisational changes were part of wider preparations for the upcoming campaign period.
Further announcements are expected as political parties finalise candidate lists and campaign plans ahead of the official election timetable.
