CAPE TOWN, Friday 24 July 2026 — The Western Cape High Court temporarily stopped Parliament’s Section 89 committee from conducting public hearings in its impeachment inquiry involving President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The interdict will remain in place pending the outcome of Ramaphosa’s review application challenging the independent panel report on which the parliamentary process is based.
Parliament’s committee chair, Makashule Gana, said the ruling applied to public hearings and that the committee would study the judgment to determine which other aspects of its work could continue.
The committee had been preparing its terms of reference, evidence-leader process and other procedural arrangements. Ramaphosa’s review of the panel report remained before the High Court.
